You may discuss here anything regarding the upgraded Toumba Stadium of PAOK. See also the relevant thread from the old forum: http://stadia.proboards16.com/index.cgi?board=engstadia&action=display&num=1048104151.

So now there is talk of PAOK building a new stadium complex where the current Toumba now stands. Capacity would be 30,000-32,000 and the stadium would include all the modern amenities (SO WE'RE TOLD AT LEAST).

Frankly it sounds like a dream. Why would the government spend money upgrading the facilities at Toumba if it were going to be torn down?

Weird things...

Good question Prometheus.

The only answer I can think of is that the new stadium will be privately financed, and the upgrades being done now are paid for by the government.

Time will only tell if this will ever materialize.

BTW admin, any pics of work being done at Toumba?

It's a very interesting idea.... I personally hope it goes through. PAOK deserves a stadium like that. But like all of you, I doubt the realness of it since works are being carried out upgrading Toumba currently (they are happening, correct?).

I'll tell you what though, will all the building going on and "rumors" of stadiums, we should be ready to host a Euro Championship soon. I hope we put in a bid for EURO 2012. Watch how fast a New Toumba and a New PAO stadium gets built. Wink

OAKA - 75.000

Kaftanzoglio 42.000 (after expanding)
New PAO Stadium @ Goudi 42.000

Karaiskaki 35.000
Pankritio 33.000
New Toumba 32.000
New AEK 30.000
Pampeloponnesiako 30.000 (another stand can easily be built on the other side)

There you go right there. Wink

Works at Toumba commenced in January (smaller scale than Harilaou - no tearing down of stands here). Some forum members say they'll try to shoot photos and send them to me. If this happens, I'll post them both on the Greek and English sections of the forum.

Actually, Panathinaikos officials mention a capacity of 36.000 in their discussions with the competent state authorities for the new stadium at Goudi. I really don't know if this is only an approximation.

Regarding Toumba, I have read that they will rebuild some stands, raise a new roof on the opposite side of the one they are constructing now, build restaurants under the new stands etc. The entire rebuilding wll be based on the new building that is being raised.

Today I heard something on the radio that work on Toumba has stopped because they found some ancient articles during excavation. Any truth to that?

@ Christos 7: Members of the forum that live in Thessaloniki report that works are progressing rapidly. The building behind the main stand has started to take shape, while the old roof over the same stand is currently being dismantled.

From what I hear the roof has been dismantled. Hoooray, no more post obstructions for the TV cameras. Smile

PAE PAOK is trying to get permission to use the gates that were covered by roof in the game with Panathinaikos, despite the fact that work is going on. It will look weird to see Toumba without the roof.

After the game with Panathinaikos this Sunday, Toumba closes down in order for the construction to be completed.

The final PAOK home game against Chalkidona this season will be played in a stadium that will be chosen by PAE PAOK. Most likely Kozani or Katerini.
