How big is basketball right now? I've read somewhere that in the last few years attendance for domestic and euroleague games dropped dramatically. Is it true' Or after last summer big win of the national team is growing again?

Also? How big is volleyball? I went to Iraklis web site and it seems that volleyball is more popular than basketball, is that possible?

take care

Here in Brazil volleyball is now bigger than basketball. It receives more attention from the press, more money from advertisement and sells far more tickets than basketball. I would say that basketball is now the 3rd or 4th sport in Brazil after football, volleyball and motor racing. As with football, our best players are playing in Europe or the US.

Im sorry for the short reply, but Im at work at the moment!!

Basketball is very big in greece. It comes second after football even though the basketball teams, local and national, have made us more proud than any other team sport has in greece. There was the season from 1993-1998 that the greek league was the best in Europe, but then foreign players infiltrated and most teams had a non-greek representation. This kind of affected the mood of greeks against basketball. Last 2 years, things start to change gradually again for the better. Olympiakos starts "warming up" again and gradually becomes the team they used to be. Panathinaikos, the only major greek representation in Europe continues to be in the 3 best teams in europe. These two teams had 15000 and 20000 people respectivelly hailing for them in their last match in Euroleague. Aris, had 8000 people chearing for their qualification in EuroCup Final.
Regarding volley, Panathinaikos and Iraklis went to the final four of champions cup an champions league respectively. Olympiakos has won the european league twice I think and generaly they are some of the best teams in europe.

thanks for the replies!

But do fans of a given team follow all the sports and so go both to stadia and arenas or they root just for one sport as everybody else?
I was shocked to see how many Iraklis fans were in Rome for the volley champions league. They looked more like football or basket-ball fans than volley ones.
bye

Usually they follow the team in every sport not just one in particular. Of course, there are some fans that prefer football more than other sports, but for the major teams in Greece the fans usually follow the team in all sports (football, basketball, volleyball, water polo).
